Where did the Bible come from? Who wrote it? How do we best interpret it? These are the core questions explored in this course. Scripture is a rich source of wisdom and truth for the spiritual life. But a lack of understanding about its origins, nature, and function can prevent us from getting the most out of it. Among other things, we will discuss scribal culture in ancient Israel and the oldest surviving biblical manuscripts, theories of divine inspiration, as well as the various methods of interpretation Christians have used throughout history, from antiquity to the present.
Instructor: Karen R. Keen, Th.M. Karen is a biblical scholar and author who has taught Bible and theology in both academic and church settings. Karen is the author of The Word of a Humble God: The Origins, Inspiration, and Interpretation of Scripture (Eerdmans, 2022).

Location: Zoom (free downloadable video conferencing software)
Days: Mondays, January 23rd – March 27, 2023 (eight LIVE lecture sessions & two self-study sessions; classes are not recorded).
Time: 8:30pm-9:45pm Eastern Standard Time (5:30pm Pacific / 7:30pm Central)

The fee is non-refundable, but you may transfer registration to someone else prior to the group start date (does not apply for married couples).
